Thursday afternoon students and staff were treated to an ice cream social with ice cream and toppings, and cookies, by BrightStone friends June Caldwell and Doris Alexander. What a yummy treat! Thanks, Ms. June and Ms. Doris!

Thursday Volunteer Night

Thursday night was another fun volunteer night at BrightStone! Ms. Sherri kept everyone busy in the Ceramics Room. We have so many wonderful volunteers that help in so many areas! If you would like to volunteer with BrightStone, call Mamie at 790-4888! Come join us!

HCA Caring for the Community Day

Today BrightStone was blessed to have 20 wonderful volunteers from HCA spend the day to volunteer with us, as part of their celebration of 40 years of Caring for the Community! They were busy and helped BrightStone adults with bowling, they built steps for our storage unit, worked alongside our adults in job training areas, and ended the day with bingo with our adults.

Immediate Need Identified

BrightStone's busy season for product sales is just around the corner! We will be out in the community at several events over the next several weeks as well as hosting our own Jingle Bell Sale on December 4-6. We have an immediate need for plastic shopping baskets for our customers to use to help make their shopping experience more pleasant! Ms. Sara has located an appropriate basket and the cost is $85 per set. If you are interested in funding the purchase of one or more sets, please call Ms. Sara at 790-4888. Thanks! Volunteer Rita Brockman Honored

This morning, volunteer and parent Rita Brockman was honored with a surprise presentation during the weekly sales meeting at her Century 21 Dawson & Associates Office. A Certificate of Appreciation from Realtor magazine was presented to Rita for her tireless work with BrightStone. Nominated by her sister Donna Scott, Rita was recognized for her passion, which is inspired by her adult daughter Jenny, who lives with developmental disabilities. THANK YOU RITA FOR ALL YOU DO!

Franklin Civitan Club Hosts Picnic for BrightStone

Last night BrightStone adults, their family members, and BrightStone staff were treated to a wonderful evening of food and fellowship by the Franklin Civitan Club. Held at Jim Warren Park, the picnic featured great barbecue from Whitt's and games of bingo for the families. At the end of the evening, a check in the amount of $500 was presented by Civitan president, Scott Myers, to Executive Director, Brenda Hauk, for BrightStone's needs.

Jessica's Birthday

On Monday, BrightStone celebrated Jessica's birthday, complete with pizza, cake, face painting and an awesome balloon artist. Happy Birthday Jessica!

Golf Benefit Activity

Our parents are getting creative! First, the Urban family asked for some type of collection container, and Ms. Mamie created the following idea! These BrightStone pots will be placed in two local businesses to raise awareness for BrightStone and for the upcoming golf benefit. If you would like something similar, let Ms. Mamie or Ms. Tina know.

Second, Peggy Glenn visited some of our neighboring friends in the Lewisburg area and secured a $500 check and a $200 check for the golf benefit just this week! She makes it look so easy! Thanks, Peggy!

Third, Cathy Stallworth secured a new golfer and three support partners in addition to herself!

Let us know of your efforts and needs! We need to work together toward our $145,000 goal!

This week we've celebrated two additional birthdays at BrightStone!

On Wednesday, we celebrated Jock's with sandwiches, chicken fingers and chocolate cake!

Then today, we celebrated Philip's with another chocolate cake! Happy Birthday, guys!

BrightStone's Annual Golf Benefit is Coming Soon!

BrightStone's annual Golf Benefit is set for Monday, October 6th at the Governor's Club. We have a rather unique format in that golfers do not "pay to play" as in most tournaments, but rather they agree to fundraise for BrightStone and attempt to raise $5,000 each! Most golfers work with one or more support partners. They work together to raise the $5,000 and in doing so, raise much awareness for BrightStone.

Brochures are now available, as well as packets of information for golfers and support partners. Another new tool for this year is an online option.
